About Martin Thompson

I’ve spent most of my life listening.

Listening to families during moments they never expected to face. Listening to stories told through laughter, tears, long pauses, and sometimes complete silence. Over nearly five decades in funeral service, I’ve learned that stories matter—often more than answers ever could.

I was raised in a multigenerational funeral-service family, surrounded from an early age by the realities of loss, compassion, and human connection. That upbringing shaped not only my career, but the way I see the world. It taught me that humor and heart often sit side by side, and that even in life’s hardest moments, there is room for grace.

Today, I serve families in North Texas through Thompson’s Harveson & Cole Funeral Home and Martin Thompson & Son Funeral Home. Along the way, I’ve become a storyteller—sharing experiences drawn from the funeral home, everyday life, faith, family, and occasionally, imagination.

My books range from off-the-wall fiction to deeply personal reflection, but they all come from the same place: a belief that stories help us understand one another, remember what matters, and sometimes find our way forward.

When I’m not writing, you’ll usually find me with my wife Janice, spending time with family, or chasing a golf ball—sometimes successfully.

Thanks for being here.
